Digital Signage Deployed In Welcome Centers at New York Airports

Parabit Systems, a New York-based company that manufactures, integrates, installs, and services a wide array of products aimed at improving customer experience with self-service has completed two major installations at New York area airports. Parabit Systems was awarded the 5.5 million dollar contract by the Port Authority of NY/NJ for the construction, installation, and maintenance of 27 state-of-the-art Welcome Centers at New York-area airports that include JFK, LaGuardia, Newark Liberty, and Stewart airport.

Each Welcome Center provides a variety of information to assist travelers ranging from print brochure racks to Internet access portals. Travelers will be able to obtain general information regarding each airport, as well as flight information, accommodations, ATMs, dining, local attractions, car rental, ground transportation, and more through a range of phone banks, interactive displays, video monitors, and service counters.

The Welcome Centers are positioned in high visibility areas near Customs and baggage claims. Construction on the Welcome Centers began in March 2008 and will continue through 2009. When completed the 27 Centers will incorporate a total of 60 kiosks and 350 digital displays.

Nintendo World— A Gamer’s Paradise Within a State-of-the-Art Retail Environment

New York— Nintendo wanted to create a memorable destination for video game enthusiasts. Through original design and smart installation, McCann Systems has delivered a gamer’s paradise, brimming with unique audiovisual experiences unprecedented in any other retail environment.

Upon entering the store, shoppers are enveloped by audiovisual experiences. The Video Tower– the premier design centerpiece of the store– is 2 stories tall and consists of nine rear-projection video screens. Eight wall mounted 45” LCD’s are highly visible upon entry. Full range speakers and subwoofers, installed in the ceiling, offer maximum fidelity. Additional LCD screens are abundant, some playing video game clips, others are used for actual video play.

Upon ascent of the glass-encased stairwell, attention is drawn to a 4-ft spherical Video Globe hanging from the ceiling displaying Nintendo graphics. Upstairs host a surround-sound lounge appropriately named “The Nintendo Experience”. Gamers are invited to sit in the egg-shaped “rumble” chairs and play video games on 45” LCD’s. The chairs are equipped with sense-around speakers along with a transducer. Amazingly, the egg-shaped chairs are so well insulated that when in use, their audio does not impede upon the ambiance of the space. Elsewhere on the 2nd floor are gaming stations with 26” LCD’s within custom kiosks.

All content is managed from Nintendo’s headquarters in Washington State and controlled by a PC bank with synchronized Watchout software. Ceiling mounted webcams allow Nintendo staff in Washington State to login in and observe the store in operation in real time.

McCann Systems has brought unique design solutions and custom-built audiovisual installations to Nintendo World with resourcefulness, ingenuit, and expertise. As a design-build audio visual integrator, McCann Systems is experiencing a spike in interest by retailers to introduce innovative AV design into their retail environments. McCann has recently integrated AV for a number of luxury retailers, including Elie Tahari (East Hampton) and NHL Powered by Reebok (New York).

Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino— Panasonic's Tour de Force

Las Vegas, NV— Anyone who has visited Las Vegas in the last few years would agree that the level of visual stimuli along the Las Vegas Strip is absolutely spectacular. To stand out in this environment you have to be willing to push the envelope to capture not only attention, but also market share. Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, formerly known as the Aladdin, has pushed the envelope with a high-end renovation that is a true showstopper.

One of the more spectacular additions to Planet Hollywood's Las Vegas location includes the deployment of 5 massive Panasonic Astrovision (24 mm) LED screens that are a prominent feature of the hotel's exterior. At the hotel's entrance is a 57-foot high curved LED display that towers over the strip. Spanning the entire length of the hotel is one of the largest "ribbon displays" ever deployed, which traces the contours of the hotel's undulating facade. The Ribbon measures 600 feet in length by 5 feet in height and displays seamless text and graphics that flow across the length of the Ribbon. Three additional LED screens are also mounted on the hotel's facade; the combined effect of all five displays, along with exterior lighting is magic.

Panasonic recently announced at InfoComm 2008 the addition of 10 new LED and SMD Large Screen Systems. The new systems come in a range of configurations from 4 mm to 40 mm, making their solutions suitable for indoor and outdoor applications.
