SEEN & NOTED: NEW YORK, NY - Barco and The Barnycz Group have announced that they have been recognized by Live Design winning an Excellence Awards in the Architainment category for their work on American Eagle Outfitters' flagship retail store in New York City’s Times Square.
Barco and Barnycz Group. Baltimore-based design firm, built the multi-tiered, interactive high-definition digital billboard in Times Square back in March 2010 using a combination of Barco LED and LCDs to create a high-impact, cost-effective display system for American Eagle Outfitters's high-impact Times Square location. The installation uses 12-faceted panels, almost 15,000 square feet in size, that are buttressed with a soaring 25-story LED tower.
To create the display, Barco engineers wrapped the building’s exterior façade with 1441 weather-resistant Barco TF-20 LED panels, for a total pixel count nearing 3.3 million. In the building’s outdoor foyer, the ceiling comprises 1665 Barco OLite 612 modules, specially designed for optimum viewing at very close distances. Immediately inside the store is a bank of 21 Barco NSL-46 LCD monitors. Purpose-built for a near-seamless presentation, these monitors allow content to be displayed in its native resolution, without any loss of image quality. To process a complex array of multi-format video, dual Barco DX-700 LED digitizers are used as the system’s front end, for optimum visual quality.
Live Design's Excellence Awards are chosen online by the publications readers.
