SEEN & NOTED: KITCHENER, ONTARIO — Shaw Communications, a leading provider of broadband cable television, phone, and high-speed internet services across Canada, has relaunched their retail stores to provide more dynamic information and services to consumers. Shaw's first digital interactive store opened last May at the Sunridge Mall in Calgary, Canada. Three additional Shaw locations have since opened in Alberta and British Columbia with more installations planned in the near future.
Each of Shaw's interactive retail locations features a dynamic digital signage display using a staggered array of 24 Christie MicroTiles, a modular display system that enables A/V designers and architects greater flexibility to configure custom digital displays. Shaw's digital signage display hangs from the ceiling using a special mount designed by RP Visuals in a 4 x 6 configuration with each tile offset from one another along the X, Y and Z axis creating a visual "waterfall" effect. Shaw's retail concept was developed as a collaborative effort between Breakhouse, a Halifax-based communications design firm and Trapeze is a full service interactive marketing agency. They designed the overall retail concept for Shaws as well as the screen content. The screen content includes media previews, new products and services announcements, special offers, and community initiatives which are shown on screen as small individual motion graphics on the display, allowing each visual element to cascade across the whole screen before pulsing back into one full screen image. Installation and project management was provided by Applied Electronics, a Canadian audio-visual and broadcast systems integrator.
